Before Your Centre Visit
Use these answers to prepare a conversation, not to assume that every centre follows the same model.
Are performance centres only for professional riders?
No. Some centres work with recreational riders, clubs and developing athletes as well as professionals. Ask about eligibility and whether the service matches your needs; access varies.
Do I need fitting, testing and coaching together?
No. Start with the question you want answered. A targeted service may be enough. A coordinated package is useful only when its parts support the same purpose.
Should fitting happen before physiological testing?
A significant position change is often best understood and adapted to before a comparison test. The right sequence depends on the rider, the test and the reason for the visit. Tell the assessor about recent changes.
Read about fitting handoffs →What should I bring?
Confirm with the centre. Common items include your bicycle if required, usual shoes and pedals, riding kit, a drink and relevant previous reports. Check axle and drivetrain compatibility in advance.
How should I prepare for a demanding test?
Follow the centre’s instructions on training, food, hydration and arrival. Report illness and relevant health concerns. Do not alter prescribed medication without appropriate clinical advice.
Understand test preparation →Can a fit or performance test diagnose pain?
Not by itself. A sporting assessment does not automatically constitute clinical diagnosis. Persistent pain, weakness or numbness needs an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.
What should the final report include?
Ask for the question addressed, methods, relevant setup, findings, limitations, practical recommendations and follow-up arrangements. Request a clear explanation of any derived training zones.
See the review workflow →How often should I repeat an assessment?
There is no universal interval. Retest when a meaningful change or decision makes the result useful, and preserve comparable conditions where possible. Ask what would change in your plan for each possible outcome.
How do I check accessibility and supervision?
Discuss the complete visit: arrival route, changing facilities, transfers, equipment adjustment, communication needs and staff support. Ask who supervises the session and what happens if you need assistance.
